Patient Care Information
A Message From the Nursing Staff

Welcome
Welcome to Noyes Memorial Hospital. You will find the Nursing Team is dedicated to making your stay comfortable and patient care front pageassisting you in many ways throughout your recovery. The following information describes the care you can expect as a patient at the Hospital. For your reference, a Patients Bill of Rights will be given to you when you are admitted.

Your Health Care Team
You will encounter a number of professionals who work together to meet your care needs.  Your health care team will be comprised of Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Registered Nurses (RN), and your physician.

On occasion, you will also interact with technicians from the Laboratory and Radiology Departments, depending on the types of tests ordered by your doctor.  Representatives from Food and Nutrition, and Housekeeping, may also be in your room from time to time. All employees wear name tags identifying the department they are from, their name, and their credentials.

Please do not hesitate to inquire about a person’s identity if you are unsure of their function in your care.

Medication
During your stay, medications and treatments are carried out by the Nursing Staff as prescribed by your doctor. Treatment may include having your temperature and blood pressure taken, having dressings changed, having medication administered, and having x-rays or laboratory tests completed.

Your physician will order pain medications, and the frequency with which they may be taken.  Be sure to let the Nurse know if you are in pain.  The Nurse may suggest pain medication if it is felt your discomfort will be eased.  It may be necessary to waken you at various times to ensure proper effectiveness of medications and treatments.

Nutrition
Your diet is ordered by your physician. Meals are prepared and delivered to you by the Food and Nutrition Department. If you require a special diet, a Certified Dietician or Diet Technician will meet with you to discuss your needs. The Food and Nutrition Department will provide instruction if you are still on a special diet at the time of your discharge.

Therapy
Physical or Occupational Therapy may be ordered by your physician and be part of your daily routine. The Nurse will inform you of your appointment time, and assist you in arriving promptly to the Rehabilitation Department.  If Respiratory Therapy is ordered by your physician, the therapy will be administered by a unit nurse or Respiratory Therapist.

Visitation
General visiting hours are from 11 am–8 pm.

Special circumstances may apply, please have family members verify appropriate visiting times with the Unit Clerk.

Visitors for surgical patients may wait in the Main Lobby while you are having surgery.  Your family should give their name and your name to the Communications Attendant.  They will be notified when you are in the Recovery Room and again when you have returned to your room.

Discharge Planning
When you are sufficiently recovered from your illness, your physician will write an order for you to be discharged. The Patient Care Managers and Nursing Team work with you and your family to help you adjust to any modifications in your lifestyle due to your illness.

Health Education is provided to teach you about your illness or disease.

Your discharge is planned with you by a Patient Care Manager.  When necessary, referrals are made to other health agencies and home care provisions are arranged.
