Traffic Safety Award for Noyes

On September 14, 2009, Heather Wagner, BSW, Certified Care Seat Technician and Case Manager of the Noyes First Steps Program and Noyes Memorial Hospital were recognized at this year’s National Child Passenger Safety Week press conference for their ongoing support in providing the most successful car seat fitting station in Livingston County.  Partnering with the Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Traffic Safety Program since 2003, Noyes First Steps has installed close to 300 car seats for clients who are pregnant and/or parenting.

The press conference kicked off a week long public education campaign to educate parents and anyone who transports children in a car, to the dangers of moving a young child to a front facing car seat too soon.  This year’s theme was “Face the Rear – More than a Year” to promote safety measures to protect infant passengers.

The week’s activities concluded with a Child Safety Seat Checkpoint and Safe Child ID event at Noyes Memorial Hospital on September 19th.  This event was open to the public and was one of the biggest car seat checkpoints in Livingston Car SeatCounty with 63 child car seat checks that resulted in replacing 59 car seats with free new car seats, covered by state and federal grants.
